Kuchiki Byakuya
He is the captain of the 6th squad and is also Rukia's older brother. He comes from a very nobel family and is very powerful. He travels from soul society to return Rukia and to kill Ichigo.

Abara Renji

Abara Renji
He is the vice-captain of the Shinigami Squad 6 - directly under Kuchiki Byakuya. He retunrs
with Byakuya to help bring back rukia, whom he seems to personally have something against. He seems somewhat strong but acts very impulsively most of the time.

She is the first real Shinigami that Ichigo ever encountered, and to save both Ichigo and herself she transfered her Shinigami powers to him. She currently is still working for soul society, but as Ichigo's Shinigami teacher. She hides herself in her human form from Hollows until her strength returns - all the while coaching Ichigo and helping him with his Soul Society missions. She aslo puts up a wonderful facade around her class mates, and is still trying to adapt and understand many things about the human world.

Kurosaki Ichigo

The main character of the manga. He goes one day from being a normal every day kid who can see ghosts, to attacked by a hollow. During this battle, when he is about to parish, a new shinsingami he has just recently met descideds to transfer half of her energy into him. Unfortunately, due to his spiritual awareness already, the moment her sword touches his soul, he takes virtually all of her power, transforming him into a shinigami. After this, he is given the role of a shinigami to protect those who are being attacked by hollows, which usually means protecting/fighting against people he already knows. Over a short period of time, Ichigo has shown that he has been able to do many things that no human should be able to do, such as fight at the level he does, as well as be able to see spiritual aura in a physical form (which allows him to locate people by sensing there aura, even if it is very weak). He is slowly begining to learn how to use and regulate his spiritual power

Introduction to the Gotei 13:
The Gotei 13 is the name given to the 13 Divisions of the Shinigami in Soul Society. Anyone classified as a Shinigami is put into 1 of the 13 Divisions, whether they are a Captain or Vice-Captain, hold a Seat, or are just a member, they are still an important part of the Division.
Each Division of the Gotei 13 has a Captain and a Vice Captain, they are generally the strongest of the whole Division. To become a Captain, a Shinigami must first have achived Ban-Kai as one of the prerequisites. The Captain and Vice Captain usually travel together and get along well.
A Shinigami cannot be seen in the human world, they leave Soul Society when they are going on missions to balance the Spirits in the World. Those that can see Ghosts can generally not see Shinigami, but there are exceptions and it is a very rare gift.

Each Shinigami wears black robes with white trimming and a white cloth belt. On special occassions they wear a arm band to signify thier rank in their specific Division. The Captain of a Division wears a White Robe with the Number of their Division in Kanji on the back.

The Shinigami have three duties:
To preform the 'Soul Burial' and send ghosts to Soul Society or Hell.
To track down and 'clense' hollows from the human world.
To regulate and balance the souls in each world.

Bleach manga was originally created by kubo tite. As the manga became popular the anime was created which brodcast at 6:30pm on Tuesdays on tv tokyo in Japan. Viz Media currently translate the manga into English and is distributed globally.
Now for a brief synopsis of Bleach:
Kurosaki ichigo looks just like any average 15 year old teenager with only one big difference; he can see ghosts/spirits. Rukia Kuchiki, a Shinigami (Soul Reaper) is out on a mission to find an evil spirit called a Hollow. The Hollow’s target is none other than Ichigo. Rukia and Ichigo confront each other for the first time. Ichigo’s family gets endangered by the Hollow and the only way to stop it was for Rukia, who was injured, to transfer her Shinigami powers to Ichigo who had a strong spiritual force. The concurrence of Rukia and Ichigo leads to many adventures, with a lot of humor along the way. Ichigo helps Rukia fight off Hollows and keep the town safe. The story continues with many twists and turns with action, adventure and comedy.
